I recently stayed with the Anchor in Dublin's gardener Street. It's my second time, as I travel to Asia twice a year on business and last March on return I stayed for my first time. What a place! A classic Georgian Dublin home turned into a sumptuous guest house. Cosy fire lit public areas. High ceiling bedrooms. Plush comfy carpeting throughout. Like living in the heart of 19th century Dublin... only with WIFI! A fabulous experience. But there's more... a massive Irish breakfast every morning and all run by a family who know how to make you feel most welcome. I look forward to my next stay in 2018.

My sister and me stayed for a weekend and the B&B was lovely ....the staff was so nice and you can just leave your room key at the reception every morning and get it back when ever you come back ...so you never have to worry about a closed door or losing the keys! Also O'Connell street is within 5 min by walking and also a shopping area and temple bar were easily reached by simply walking there :) ...all in all it was a pleasant stay!!!

Brief stay at Anchor house and because we had to leave early to get bus to airport I can't comment on breakfast as it started after we'd left (an earlier start to breakfast than 8am would be an improvement I'd suggest). Having said that, we were at least able to grab some fruit. Room was spacious for the 3 of us and beds and pillows comfy enough. Linen and towels were provided and clean. Room generally clean but the window frames and walls.could do with a scrub. Great location close to everything, quite secure, and reception staff were friendly and helpful. Would be happy to stay again.

We have all stayed at Anchor House before on motorcycle trips and find the accommodation to be very good for our purposes, with secure parking for the bikes and easy access to the city centre area. The only disappointment on this trip was the attitude of the night porter who basically "told us off" for taking our keys out in the evening. We were not informed that this was not acceptable when we arrived and so were not aware of the correct procedure. We stayed again on Friday 22nd and this time the same night porter was totally out of order - we returned to the guest house at 0130 after a fair bit to drink and he basically demanded that we pay the bill for our stay there and then. We refused and went to bed. His attitude was quite aggressive and lesser able or older people may have felt they had to comply with him. We realise it may be that he is of Eastern European origin and they do things differently, but this was not acceptable behaviour in our opinion.

Moreover, people who work there are very solicitous for clients. Specially, I remember a girl called Peach ( sorry if I commit a mistake with the name) who was at he house reception every minute very attentive for costumers. The Anchor House provided a really good base from which we could explore the city. Right in the heart of Dublin centre we walked to all of the places we wanted to go... From the National Gallery and museums to Temple Bar, Christ Church and St Patrick's Cathedral's. The services were basic but clean and cosy and we had free wifi, a tele, and tea and coffee making facilities. Staff were helpful and friendly. Didn't feel able to go off script with the breakfast menu or luxuries such as that, but then we didn't need to. Everything we needed was there. The real fire in the front room was lovely as it was very cold and snowy at times, and we'd definitely book to stay there again should we ever return to Dublin. Easy airport access too. Our room was located towards the rear of the hotel. Had a lovely, comfy bed and no noise disturbance.

Also very easy to get to from the airport via the 747 bus, however they do need to update their site as it is not stop 8, it is now stop 6, lower gardener street. I noticed this when looking at the map waiting for the bus at the airport. Overall had a good stay and one of the only places we stayed that served beans with breakfast, which I liked.

My comments would be to get the wifi into all bedrooms and on cold days offer cocoa at night. Breakfast was adequate, it was fun to see the dumbwaiter in use. I LOVED staying here! Perfect location in a real neighborhood not taken over by tourists, but still near everything. The tram and Connolly station are two blocks away. Lots of good restaurants, pubs and shops on Talbot street. A lot of the 'action' is south of the river, which is why this location is preferable to me. The staff at the Anchor House is wonderful. I loved coming back to a nice fire in the fireplace. Plus, one of the staff made us some hot whiskies when she saw we were whisky fans. How many hotels would do that! If you want a home away from home, the Anchor House will suit you well. I'll definitely stay here next time I'm in Dublin.

Overall, our stay was pleasant at the Anchor House. I think the best part of staying here is the proximity to train and bus services. My wife and I were able to walk to Trinity College and major pubs and shops. We also made frequent usage of the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus. I would recommend the Anchor House if you want easy access to Dublin and all its attractions.

Loved it!! I was staying at a hotel on O'Connell street for my meeting (no names, but it begins with a G, has an R in it, and an E and S and H, and I enjoyed my stay here 100% more. Loved the staff. Really made me feel at home. The only thing I would say is that I wish I had a clock in my room because I was an idiot and didn't bring a watch or a clock and I missed my tour because of it. I know you can't fix me being an idiot, but a clock would've been nice. Thanks. I'll be back!!!

Anchor House is a lovely hotel in a great location. The hosts are friendly and the staff are helpful. We had a very nice stay there twice in December 2011 (before and after Christmas) with one problem - the hot water is variable. On our first day we had none at all. The staff person we spoke to expressed concern and said he would look into it. The next day we had hot water but it was always sketchy - some days just warm, some days nice and hot. If long hot showers are important to you, this place might not be the best choice. Other than that, though, it was wonderful.
